It’s Raining AI Logos
If you don’t have one now might be a good time grab yourself a logo.
Solo practitioners and smaller law firms without a logo should know that OpenAI recently released a powerful image-creation tool worth your attention. It’s part of ChatGPT and was previously known as DALL·E— or maybe it still is called that, who knows? Naming AI tools coherently seems impossible for OpenAI.
Naming confusion aside, this new image generator is a big step forward, especially if you’re building a law firm’s online presence. Firms need three basics to start marketing online—
1. A domain name
2. A simple website
3. A logo
The logo is where the new ChatGPT image creation tool (whatever they call it) comes in.
Why This Is a Big Deal
If you watched the YouTube video where we try out OpenAI’s earlier image tools, you might remember the frustration—especially when it came to text. A logo that says “Log Firm” instead of “Law Firm” isn’t helpful, no matter how pretty it looks. Back then, it was fun to brainstorm, but the image tool still required a graphics designer to fix the details.
That’s no longer the case.
The latest version of ChatGPT’s image generator now creates professional-quality, usable logos. It’s shockingly close to working with a real designer—and for small firms, it’s worth a look.
How to Hire Your First AI Graphic Designer
- Go to chatgpt.com
- Free accounts get 3 images per day
- Paid subscribers get unlimited generations (these days rate limits may apply due to everyone testing the new image tool)
The image generator works through text prompts just like most AI requests, you can also attach reference images or even include hex codes for precise color control.
While the image creator now includes some basic editing (you can select and ask for changes to a specific area), results are hit-or-miss. Asking for a specific change sometimes works but other times your request is ignored or misunderstood. Best practice might just be to start over fresh instead of trying to coax exactly what you want through a series of prompts. Prompting for an edit “might” work, but it is just as likely to change some other part of the image that you like, so tread carefully.
Tips for Prompting a Good Logo
- Be clear, but not too wordy.
- Include your firm name, style, and color preferences.
- Tell ChatGPT what your company does—this gives it helpful context.
Example Setup
We start by pasting a short company description:
We specialize in the development of reasonably-priced legal and tax software for courts, government agencies, law firms and accounting firms.
Then we try a couple prompts. The prompts we used and the resulting logos are below:
“Design a sleek, modern logo for Puritas Springs Software, using #001d7d and #c1c3c9, with a modern sans-serif.”
“Design a sleek, modern logo for Puritas Springs Software, Use calming colors (blue and silver), a law related icon, and minimalist font.”
“Design a sleek, modern law related logo for Puritas Springs Software, using the attached picture for inspiration.”
